Pennsylvania Turnpike Accident Leaves Five Fatalities, 60 Injuries

A multi-vehicle accident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike left five victims fatally injured and about 60 individuals with varying injuries. The crash occurred on Sunday morning around 3:33 am in Mount Pleasant Township, Pennsylvania and involved a passenger bus, three tractor-trailers, and several passenger vehicles. During the accident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, the bus rolled over, and the tractor-trailers and one other vehicle slammed into the bus. It is said that the inclement weather may have been a factor in the fatal crash. Twenty-five victims, which include nearly ten children, received medical attention at the Excela Health Frick Hospital.

Accidents involving many vehicles including large modes of transportation like buses and tractor-trailers oftentimes lead to fatalities and catastrophic injuries. Maneuvering large vehicles presents challenges to even the most skilled and experienced drivers, which it is believed may have occurred to the bus driver in the Pennsylvania Turnpike crash who attempted to make a turn and instead hit an embankment. Buses tend to roll over when engaged in an accident due to the top-heavy construction of the vehicle and puts occupants at-risk for injuries and other serious consequences. Inclement weather increases the likelihood of an accident taking place.
