Pennsylvania Bar Association to Honor Lawrence Chaban of AlpernSchubert P.C.

The Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) Workers’ Compensation Law Section will present Lawrence R. Chaban, partner of AlpernSchubert. P.C., with the 2020 Irvin Stander Memorial Award during its annual fall meeting at the Hershey Lodge. The award is named in honor of the late Judge Irvin Stander.

Lawrence R. Chaban graduated with his Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh in 1980. He is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Court of Appeals for the Third, Fourth, and Sixth Circuits, and the District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.

In 2013, Lawrence was certified by the PBA and authorized by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court as a specialist in Workers’ Compensation. Lawrence also focuses on social security disability and labor and employment law at the firm.

Currently serving a three-year term on the PBA Board of Governors representing Allegheny County lawyers, Lawrence is a member and former chair of the Pennsylvania Association for Justice (PAJ) Amicus Curiae Committee and has written a number of briefs before the Supreme and Commonwealth courts on Workers’ Compensation topics.

For his important work, the PAJ awarded Lawrence the George F. Douglas Amicus Curiae Award in 2007. Lawrence is also a former comptroller for the PAJ and chaired the PAJ Workers’ Compensation Section in the past.

In March 2013, Lawrence was a fellow at the College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers. In 2015, he was appointed to the Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council, where he serves as employee co-chair.

Lawrence frequently lectures on Workers’ Compensation topics and belongs to the American Bar Association, the Allegheny Bar Association, the National Employment Lawyers Association, and the National Organization of Social Security Claimant Practitioners. He was also recognized in The Best Lawyers in America and selected to Super Lawyers.

Having started his career in Washington, Pennsylvania with one of the leading firms in Workers’ Compensation, Lawrence received his background in labor law from respected coal field practitioners. In 2003, Larry moved his practice to Pittsburgh before joining AlpernSchubert P.C., where he is now a partner.
